On the Cover: Peroxisomes are motile organelles, and their movement in animal cells has been linked to the microtubule cytoskeleton. In an elegant study employing green fluorescent protein variants and targeted probes, Mathur et al. (pp. 1031–1045) have visualized cytoskeletal elements and peroxisomes simultaneously in various cell types under different conditions. In contrast to animals, peroxisome motility in plants was found to be actin cytoskeleton based. Their results also suggest, for the first time in plants, the possible involvement of an actin polymerization-generated propulsive force rather than a myosin-motor-based mechanism for driving organelle motility.
