This year has seen the introduction of the new Associate Features Editors to the Editorial Board of Plant Physiology. They have added significantly to the Journal, providing readers with broader editorial insights into newsworthy articles we publish. The Associate Features Editors have proven such a success that we plan to expand their role and hope to add new Associate Features Editors to our roster.
We will continue to publish editorials and discussion offered by readers as well; however, to reflect the changing content with the advent of the Associate Features Editors, we are introducing two new formats to the Journal. As of this month, Plant Physiology will include a News and Views section as a “first stop” editorial forum highlighting what excites us in each issue of the Journal. News and Views will offer short insights to accompany articles of special interest, with background and discussion for the nonspecialist. Although the majority of these short editorials will be from our Associate Features Editors, undoubtedly they will include the occasional contribution offered by, or solicited from, our readership.
To accommodate the increased interest from readers for a forum for discussion, we are also introducing a new Letters format for publication in Plant Physiology. Letters will be a home for reader correspondence relating to new scientific ideas and findings and will not incur publication charges. Letters will be limited to a maximum of three journal pages, no more than 20 citations, and may include one or two tables or figures. Letters will be considered subject to the extent to which thinking is challenged on topics of interest to the Journal. Therefore, I encourage prospective authors to consult our Instructions for Authors and to contact me in advance.
I hope these additions to our publication will become a home for constructive discussion and analysis of science within the community, and I look forward to submissions from many of you in the future.
