About the Cover

Cover Figure

On the Cover: The cover photo shows an Australian wheat field affected by dryland salinity, where a rising water table has carried salt to the surface. The problem is being addressed by sowing with deep-rooted perennial crops, such as alfalfa, to lower the water table. Salt tolerance is needed for these "dewatering" perennial species as well as the annual crop species that follow, as salt will be left in the soil when the water table is lowered. Cover image by R.
