Data are the means ± se of 10 roots. Delineation of growth zone and meristem length is described in “Materials and Methods,” and the length of the zone of rapid elongation was defined as their difference. The number of cells within each zone, and their residence time, was calculated as described in Methods. Significance denotes the overall significance of the difference between days, determined by multivariate analysis of variance.
