Plant Physiology Preview publishes manuscripts after they have been accepted but before the final, copyedited issue is published online. Early posting of accepted manuscripts reduces normal time to publication by five to eight weeks.

Plant Physiology Preview papers are citable. The official publication date is the date the paper is first published online and can be found at www.plantphysiol.org. Plant Physiology Preview papers are assigned Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs), automatically generated unique identifiers for intellectual property in the digital environment (e.g., 10.1104/pp.010130). All papers in Plant Physiology Preview include their unique DOI in a footnote to the paper.

A sample citation of a paper in Plant Physiology Preview follows:

Lally, D., Ingmire, P., Tong, H.Y., He, Z.H. (May 20, 2001). Antisense expression of a cell wall-associated protein kinase, WAK4, inhibits cell elongation and alters morphology. Plant Physiology 10.1104/pp.010075

After a paper is published in Plant Physiology Preview, it proceeds through the remainder of the production process and is published five to eight weeks later in both Plant Physiology Online and the printed journal. The final, formal citation of a paper in Plant Physiology that was first published in Plant Physiology Preview follows:

Lally, D., Ingmire, P., Tong, H.Y., He, Z.H. (2001) Antisense expression of a cell wall-associated protein kinase, WAK4, inhibits cell elongation and alters morphology. Plant Physiology 13, 963-977. First published on May 20, 2001; 10.1104/pp.010075

After final publication, Plant Physiology Preview version of a paper will be removed from the active list and stored in an accessible, permanent archive.

Plant Physiology Preview is functionally integrated into the Plant Physiology Online system. If a paper in Plant Physiology Preview meets search criteria, it will appear in the search results. Plant Physiology Preview papers are also included in the e-mail notification of new papers, which can be requested on a weekly basis.
